Circus is magic, excitement, laughter and tears. It is sawdust, horses and exotic animals.
Circus is artists and clowns in a universe of experiences and adventures based on a history going back for centuries – but presented as a contemporary show.
For a number of years I have had the opportunity to photograph the people and destinies, creating a unique universe in the sawdust covered circus arena. Bathed in colorful spotlights, accompanied by a roll of drums, the artists seduce the audience night after night under the canvas.
Circus is a world of its own. No other part of the entertainment industry is living a life so changeable. It is a caravan constantly on the move. The purpose is to bring an unforgettable experience to people of all ages in every nook and cranny of the country.
For only 10-12 minutes artists and clowns must do a performance being a result of 100s – maybe even 1000s of hours of trials and training. These portraits reflect the expressions of the persons and characters behind these efforts, this daring and fantasy.
